The cremation ceremony for Miss Lis and Mr. Oi, the “Destined Couple,” took place at Chong Lom Temple in Sankhaburi, Chai Nat, on March 3rd, 2018. Family members, relatives, acquaintances, and friends travelled in large numbers to attend and express their mourning together during the cremation ceremony of Miss Lichtsasi Mongkolpornsap (Lis) and Mr. Jessadaporn Buapetch (Oi) at 15:00.
They have been referred to as “Bupphesaniwat,” the “Destined Couple.” Their tragic tale has garnered attention due to the shocking number of commonalities which they shared: identical birthdays; similar times of birth; both grew up in single-parent households; home addresses and car license plates that ended in the same numbers; studied at the same university in the same faculty and were in the same year; passed away on the exact same day with similar times of death in the same car; and each lived for a total of 20 years, 8 months, and 20 days.
The ceremony received the honour of being presided over by Khun Piya Malakul Na Ayudhya, Chairman of Pacific Group, along with Thanpuying Erriya Malakul Na Ayudhya.
When it was time to move the corpses to the crematorium, a solo violinist played a song for the “Destined Couple” and afterwards, fellow students from the Faculty of Architecture and Design at Assumption University, played another song that included bellows of mourning. So many students bawled in unison to express their mourning and it filled the atmosphere with grief and sorrow.
In addition to this, the Thai traditional dance (Rabam Daowadueng) was performed before “bangsukun,” the offering of the robes to the monks on behalf of the deceased. Then, the cremation of Miss Lis and Mr. Oi, the “Destined Couple,” took place simultaneously so that they could travel closely together in harmony through to the afterlife.
Overall, there were many attendees who travelled from all over Bangkok, Chai Nat, and other nearby provinces so that they could mourn and say their final farewell to Miss Lis and Mr. Oi, the “Destined Couple.”
