5 Cool Places Worth Visiting In Nakhon Sawan

Nakhon Sawan has existed since before the Sukhothai era. The name of this city appears in Sukhothai’s stone inscription and it was called Phra Bang city which was an important frontier city for the wars. It later changed to Chon Tawan city and finally to Nakhon Sawan, but normally it was called Pak Nam Pho city. There is some archaeological evidence that indicated that Nakhon Sawan had been an agricultural city since the beginning of the historical era, and later acted as a centre of transportation and a location for Chinese traders.




Phra Chula Maha Chedi

Phra Chula Maha Chedi is situated on Daowadueng Mountain, Wat Khiri Wong. It was built on top of the base of an old pagoda that was built in the 14th century in the late Sukhothai era about 600 years ago. Inside the pagoda, on the 4th floor, there are 4 important reproduced Buddha statues: The Emerald Buddha (Phra Phuttha Maha Mani Rattana Patimakon), Phra Phuttha Chinnarat (reproduced), Phra Phuttha Sothon (reproduced) and Luangpho Wat Rai Khing bronze statue. Inside the Chedi’s dome, there is a mural about the biography of the Buddha. The entrance door is open daily from 07:00 to 18:00.

Khao No – Khao Kaeo

There are troops of monkeys at the foot of the hill. At the evening, flights of bats living in the cave fly to feed. Khao Kaeo is in the same area with Khao No and there is a middle road.  Khao Kaeo Cave has many caves that belong to the herd of bats. Especially in the evening, the bats will fly out of the mouth of millions of caves. Make the most of the experience.


Chansen Ancient City and Chansen Museum

It was presumed that Chansen had been a city in the Dvaravati period. In the area of the city, a moat with an earth mound was formed in the shape of a rectangle with curved corners. The surrounding moat was around 20 metre wide. At present, it is seen as a low area holding water, but with some evident traces of the old moat. The city is around 800 metre long and 700 metre wide, covering an area of over 300 rai. Since the interior ground of the moat is higher than the exterior area, the high land is called ‘Khok’ Chansen by villagers.  Many ancient objects were excavated in the city.  Those made of pottery included votive tablets of the Buddha image, figurines, lamps, etc. Stone artefacts were lotus bases,  wheels of law, and polished stone axes. There were also those made of metal including lead or tin earrings,  and bronze spear blades. Presently, all the artefacts have been kept in the Chansen Museum at Wat Chansen. The museum is open every day from 9.00 a.m.-4.00 p.m.


Chaopho-Chaomae Pak Nam Pho Procession

It is a traditional fair passed down from ancestors of Thais of Chinese origin who have lived in the town of Nakhon Sawan. Chinese New Year will begin 29 January – 9 February 2019 , the fair features processions of dragons, lions, Goddess (Chao Mae) Kwan Yin, Lamps (teng ling) bright across the city of Po Po over 10,000 and other performances to go along main roads in the Municipality of Mueang Nakhon Sawan. On January 7, 2019, a daylighting ceremony was held on February 8, 2019.  The night parade an impressive parade.  Especially A procession of golden dragons, lions. Event 12 days 12 nights.

Wat Phra Prang Lueang

Wat Phra Prang Lueang is in Tambon Tha Nam Oi. The officer of the Fine Arts Department calculated the age from sacred places to be over 230 years old, built around A.D. 1762 or the late Ayutthaya era. From the temple's record and government annals, it is said that King Rama V the Great or Phra Phutthachao Luang  had been to Wat Phra Prang Lueang 3 times. In the year 2019 will be organized a boat trip (simulation) in the middle of the Chao Phraya River. The activities of the retro dress contest during the reign of King Rama V. The Boat Race. The events will begin 11-12 August 2019
